The Center of Excellence for Aerospace Executive Director, Mary Kaye Bredeson, has been asked to present at the American Technical Education Association Western Regional Conference held in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho October, 3rd-5th. The focus of the conference will be, “Where’s The Money?” Mary Kaye, will be presenting a discussion and breakout session on the Center of Excellence for Aerospace and their work around “Best practices cultivating collaboration and communication between industry and education” highlighting the recent work being done through the $20 million DOL TACCCCT Grant called “Air Washington.” Carol Weigand, Air Washington Grant Manager at Spokane Community College will be a Co-presenter. Highlights will include what ATEA is assessing; growing technical programs that match employer’s needs with funding opportunities and/or collaborations with entities such as: Department of Labor; Department of Energy; Environmental Protection Agency and Industry. The Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing loaned out their Grant Writer to help write the winning DOL grant proposal along with 11 colleges that make up the “Air Washington” consortium.
The Keynote Speaker, Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of Employment and Training Administration, will be addressing the following questions-
What is the role of Professional Technical Education and/or Career & Technical Education in the efforts of workforce and economic development at the local level? What resources are available to enhance Professional Technical Education efforts considering the current level of state funding for such programs? What are some specific program examples the Department of Labor and your office have partnered with in the western United States?
